How to Register for AGPO Certificate in Kenya

Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) was launched in 2013. Its main objective is to provide opportunities to the youth, women and people living with disabilities. Its main focus is to ensure that these marginalized groups get more access to government tenders. Thirty percent of Kenyan tenders should go to them.

The provisions of AGPO are provided for in the constitution that requires fair, equitable and transparent public procurement for goods and services. Exclusive preference for procurement shall apply to counties, sub-counties, constituencies and wards.

You need to get the AGPO certificate to apply for tenders in the following groups; small enterprises, citizen contracts, marginalized groups, local contracts, and citizen contracts.

How to Apply for AGPO Certificate

To apply for the AGPO certificate, follow these simple steps.

  • Login to AGPO website
  • Click on register and fill in your details and email address. You also need to set a password.
  • When you are done, an activation link will be emailed to the address you provided.
  • Open your emails and locate the activation link. Click on the link to activate your account.
  • Log into to your AGPO account using the page that opens using the link. Enter your email address and password that you set.
  • Fill in your business details and attach the required scanned documents.

Enterprise Compliance Details

You need to provide correct and accurate details about your enterprise when applying for an AGPO certificate. You should provide the following information.

  • Your business category such as ICT, construction, etc
  • The number of employees in your enterprise
  • Number of years the enterprise has been in existence
  • Annual turnover of the enterprise
  • PIN/VAT number
  • Tax compliance certificate number
  • Bank details like the account name, bank and account number

Documents to Provide During AGPO Registration

You need to provide the following scanned documents to register for the AGPO certificate.

For Women

  • National ID or passport
  • Certificate of incorporation and business registration certificate
  • Tax compliance certificate
  • For partnership businesses, a partnership deed
  • PIN/VAT certificate
  • A letter from a government technical body like the National Construction Authority for construction businesses.

For People Living with Disabilities

  • National ID or passport
  • Certificate of incorporation or business registration
  • Certificate from the National Council of people with disabilities
  • CR12 from the registrar of business names. This is for Limited Companies.
  • For a partnership business, a partnership deed
  • Tax compliance certificate
  • A letter from a government technical body like the National Construction Authority for construction businesses

For Youths

  1. National identity card or passport. You should be between 18 and 34 years.
  2. Certificate of incorporation or business registration
  3. Partnership deed for a partnership business
  4. Tax compliance certificate
  5. CR12 for limited companies
  6. A letter from a government technical body like the National Construction Authority for construction businesses

For schemes and co-owned enterprises, like enterprises owned by youth, women, and people living with disabilities, they must meet the following requirements.

  1. Must constitute at least seventy percent of people in the marginalized groups; youth, women and people living with disabilities.
  2. The leadership of the enterprise must one hundred percent people in the marginalized group.
  3. Must be registered with the relevant government bodies.
